Position Summary

Along with General Service’s personnel, this person will perform preventive maintenance, installation, and commissioning/general servicing of systems (including detailed troubleshooting of system). This requires basic knowledge of HVAC controls systems, facilities management systems, site preparation, peripheral equipment installation and servicing techniques. This person will also work alongside College HVAC personnel in field.

Abilities and Skills

*Ability to read diagrams, blueprints, and control prints. (Minimum)
*Ability to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to perform the above responsibilities and duties. (Minimum)
*Possession of a valid driver’s license. (Minimum)
*Computer skills in Microsoft Access, Excel, and Word. (Desired)


*Must be a current Penn College student. (Minimum)
*Associate Degree in Computer Science, Electronics, Mechanical Systems, Air Conditioning, or similar discipline in progress. (Minimum)
*Documented completion of technical courses in energy management and DDC systems from an HVAC school or branch of the Armed Forces. (Desired)



Responsibilities and Duties

-Diagnose and repair system malfunctions requiring basic knowledge of a variety of electronic or digital controls systems and ability to test and write modifications in multiple languages of systems software. (Marginal)
-Repair or replace and install components associated with HVAC environmental control. (Essential)
-With assistance from HVAC personnel and using College-owned software, write and install programs into controllers. (Essential)
-Work with and observe College Computer Services in correcting software and hardware conflicts that arise on College-owned workstations/laptops/networks. (Essential)
-Repair, replace and install networking between devices. (Marginal)
-Observe installation of new releases of software in College-owned laptops and workstations at building sites. (Essential)
-Observe uploads at workstation, under supervision of HVAC personnel, as needed, with backups of entire databases as they change. (Marginal)
-Work with others in HVAC shop to acquire training in use of software programs in both laptops and workstations. (Essential)
-Assist the HVAC supervisor in planning future FMS (facility management systems) growth and direction. (Marginal)
-Practice and observe safety rules in the performance of duties. (Essential)
-Perform other duties related to the commissioning and servicing of building controls and facilities management systems as assigned by the supervisor. (Marginal)

*Incumbent must be a Pennsylvania College of Technology student.
*Regular Part-time Position schedule: 20 to 25 hours per week.
*Some flexibility in scheduling to meet the needs of the incumbent and the department.
*Some emergency work may be necessary to meet the needs of General Services.
*Traveling among buildings and other campus sites may involve the use of a college vehicle.
*Background check will be required on selected candidate.
